Poi offers an adventure of exploring the different worlds and fun gameplay. The levels have items to collect, some of them not initially available, requiring a certain item or unlocking parts of the world through the Explorer Medallions. Items, tools and upgrades can be bought at the shops by collecting enough coins, which are easy to get since you can replay levels to collect coins again. To unlock the other worlds you will need to collect a certain amount of Explorer Medallions. One level I found annoying was the Crystal Caverns where the lights were off.

The story is simple, the master explorer introduces you to his quest to open the mysterious gate and find the legendary treasure, but we never learn what happened to his wife during the accidnet.

There are several characters giving tips, selling items, offering challenges that help you progress. You can choose to play as a boy or a girl, but they play exactly the same. The stand out is the fun gameplay. You can do a backflip, double jump, jump dive, wall jump, pull off the triple jump mechanic, ledge grab. New Game+ is available after beating the game once with only 1 health, but the checkpoints are still there so it isn’t too challenging.

Poi may not have the best graphics or story, but it has fun gameplay and charm. It’s a great cute budget 3D platformer. For achievement hunters: Collect all the things on the first playthrough and beat the game again in New Game+.
