It’s fine. Feels like Oblivion, though the inspiration seems to have Dark Souls at its core. The controls aren’t too intuitive but not so outlandish to complain about. I find the visual style to be a little bland, like a photo taken with automatic mode on in a room lit by yellow lights. I think the game would look a lot better if the contrast between light and dark were stronger Back to ashes is clearly a souls-like,

and specifically a Demon-souls-like, and the only question left to ask, is it any good? Yes, it is good, the combat is fun and challenging, the world is dark and nighmarish, and the maps are webs of potential exploration. it also adds random loot drops ala Diablo.

An enjoyable game, reminiscent of an unrefined/unpolished Dark Souls, with a better item system, reminiscent of rare items in Diablo 2 classic. While the game is still in development, it is playable with a bit of patience. The developer – a one man team – is very responsive and is continually expanding and improving the game. I enjoyed the game quite a bit in the 16 hours it took me to explore the entire world in the game thus far, but

it was a bit frustrating at times. Wow, this is a very good buy! Game feels very responsive and well done on keyboard and mouse and binding new keys for your personal style works well. Good story line and lore in the intro. All settings work well and enemies are challenging. The music and atmosphere are right on point and the gloomy, sad atmosphere feels absolutely amazing and makes you want to continue further.
